Durty Watur Band drum cam 9/7/2024
My official second gig with the new band! This was in our last set at the Rush Bar & Grill in Lake Forest - small stage, Zoom Q2n-4K camera house right recording at 720p (Shoulda' did at least 1040p, but oh well, the audio is a good representation from the built-in stereo mic. I think I'll keep this band ;)

Wanted to hear if there was a huge difference between audio systems, so the first half of this short snippet was done with an iPhone 13 with the Shure MOTIV iOS stereo mic attached, and recorded with the Shure MOTIV video app. The second half (where the picture goes wide), was done with the Zoom Q2n-4K standalone camcorder with it's built-in stereo mic. Checking out the ease-of-use-to-get-good-audio-and-video with the Zoom Q2n-4K and it really is easy! Listen with headphones. Just put the camera on a stand, recording video at 4K and audio at CD quality, then edited in Quick Time and compressed down to 480p to send to the phone to post on Instagram - what do ya think?

Decided to explore lowering everything down without resorting to using one rack tom. This meant spreading the rack toms apart and just really looking at how important it was to have the rack tom heads close together (but higher) just to do a fill (which is really only maybe 3% of the time - the other 97% is playing time as you should). Had a cool gig playing with my Hawaiian brethren outside a Hawaiian restaurant! Never played with them before and they literally nailed ALOT of the Hawaiian songs I grew up with (even had some interesting re-arrangements of some of them). But Mustang Sally STILL managed to sneak in to a set! I swear that song is haunting me everywhere I go!

Decided to try a wide open bass drum on the Rogers 22” bass drum. Batter head is a Remo PS3 and on the front is a black Evans hydraulic head with no port. The Shure Beta 52 mic is about 3” in front of the center of the drum. I think it sounds nice and phat with the rest of the kit ringing appropriately. A quickie recording using one overhead and one bass drum mic going into my iPhone. New Rogers lacquered kit from 1979: 12/13/16/18/22 with 5” DynaSonic. Emperors on top and ambassadors on bottom, PS3 on bass drum.

Turned out great
Nice technique. I just got the reissued speed king. Unfortunately it squeeked,and didn't feel as good as i thought it would. Tried exchanging it for the direct drive gilbraltar, but wasn't in stock. The salesman at sweetwater recommended this pedal. Almost twice the price, but if i can play doubles effortlessly, I'll be happy. Looks like a high quality pedal. Hopefully so!
@@rrcorsobrakeman8647 it’s a really solid pedal. I think you’ll like it - it’ll feel completely different from the Speed King!

@@rrcorsobrakeman8647 well, regardless of how many people like it, let’s face it, the Speed King is an OLD pedal. In it’s hey-day it never felt like the Gretsch Floating Action (which all the modern pedals are based off of) and it still doesn’t today. Modern direct drive pedals are just engineered better and other than the linkage, they act like their chain-driven brothers. They don’t feel funky like the Ludwig does. I still say you’ll like the Yamaha WAY better. And the DW direct drive is also great if you want to pay even more 🙂
How did you make it direct drive? This is amAZING!
These aren’t direct drive - I replaced the sprocket and chain with a cam and nylon strap.

Try to order a basd drum strap and try to lift it up and play it but depends if you back hurts and your stregth to lift it up

Got it last week and have been testing it out with smaller sizes from what I usually use. They’re solid and sound good. Perfect for the jobbing drummer.

I have a 9002 double pedal, and I will be getting a Trick drive shaft for it at some point. I'm wondering, does the Canopus speed bearing fit the 9000 series?
